Mariah to Perform at Joe Torre's Gala
Mariah is slated to perform at The Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation Gala honoring the 1996 World Champion New York Yankees on November 10th. The event is being held at Chelsea Piers and is being hosted by Bob Costas. Mariah is the only scheduled performer for the evening.
The event will be raising money for Margaret's Place. According to the invitation, "Margaret's Place is a comprehensive program which provides students with a safe room in school where they can meet with a professional counselor trained in domestic violence intervention and prevention."

SEXYBACK 2 BACK
Justin Timberlake occupies two adjacent positions in the top five of The Billboard Hot 100, the first artist to have a pair of hits in the top five since Mariah Carey occupied the top two in September 2005. 50 Cent had three singles in the top five in March 2005.
Timberlake’s former No. 1 hit, "SexyBack" (Jive) slips 2-4 while the follow-up, "My Love" (featuring T.I.), marches 8-5.
Carey’s "We Belong Together" was No. 1 while her follow-up, "Shake It Off," was No. 2 the week of Sept. 10, 2005. Like Timberlake, 50 Cent was also No. 4 and No. 5, the week of March 12, 2005. "How We Do" by the Game featuring 50 Cent was holding at No. 4 and "Disco Inferno" by 50 Cent was up 6-5. Meanwhile, "Candy Shop" by 50 Cent featuring Olivia was in its second week at No. 1.
Timberlake’s "My Love" is the fourth song with that title to reach the top five of the Hot 100. If it goes to No. 1, it will be the third different "My Love" to top the chart. Petula Clark’s "My Love" was No. 1 in 1966 and Paul McCartney’s song of the same name was No. 1 in 1973. Lionel Richie’s "My Love" went to No. 5 in 1983.

Manager Benny Medina says eight-thousand tickets were sold to her Hong Kong concert, not four-thousand, as promoter Concerts Asia claimed. Medina blames the cancellation on the tour promoter’s failure to pay Carey.
Medina says the promoter has "defaulted several times, right up into the last 48 hours."
Concerts Asia had said the Hong Kong date was canceled because of poor ticket sales and because Carey had made "wholly unreasonable" demands.
Medina says Carey’s team is talking to other promoters to see if the Hong Kong show can be completed with another promoter.
Dupri was head of urban music at Virgin. But late yesterday, according to my sources, Dupri quit—i.e. was forced out—after disappointing sales of Jackson’s comeback album called "20 YO."
Three weeks into its release, the album is a dud with less than 500,000 copies sold. I told you in this space last week, before anyone else, that the CD had dropped an astonishing 77 percent in sales in its second week.
For Jackson, this is especially painful since "20 YO" was the last album on her Virgin contract. She now faces the task of negotiating a new deal with little leverage.
Dupri was partially responsible along with Randy Jackson ("American Idol" fame, not the brother) for making Mariah Carey’s "Emancipation of Mimi" album a monster hit. With Janet, he opted to make her into something she couldn’t be at age 40—a hip hop diva—rather than present her as an adult star. Kids did not flock to her, and adults didn’t want to hear it.
At the 11th hour there was talk of Mariah possibly re-recording one of the "20 YO" songs with Janet to resuscitate the album. But with Dupri gone, "20 YO" will probably just get written off as a mistake now. This will leave Jason Flom, head of Virgin, to rebuild the urban department at the label—something I’m told he’s been itching to do since he took over last year.
